Overarching Artist Statement: The artwork that I have done throughout this class has been for the most part improvement and experimentation. I created my art through various methods and techniques. I've used watercolor paint, colored pencils, and I even created several clay structure/sculptures. The big idea behind my pieces was to improve and explore different elements of art in which I had been taught. My goal was to achieve a higher level of mastery over different forms of mediums. Overall I believe that I have achieved my goal as I have been successful in several pieces of art. Art to me is a means of truly being capable of expressing that which cannot be expressed in words. To be able to articulate your deepest emotions and convey everything that you want or need to in one piece. A piece that speaks a ten thousand words and expresses the true intentions and feeling of the artist. Reflection 1: I would say that my most successful project would be my fractured landscape drawing. I used a color pencil medium to fill in a fragmented mountain range that I had sketched. This project in particular stands out to me as the outcome appeals to me. The fragmentation makes some semblance of order despite this being the first occasion that I have done a piece like that. Reflection 2: Now that I've reviewed my most successful project I will go over one of my pieces that is less desirable. One project that I would do over, if I could, is my honeycomb pot. During the initial etching of my design, I cut too deep which caused my piece to crack and break when it was fired. The result wasn't as detrimental as anticipated however as I was able to reseal the broken piece with glaze. To improve my artwork I should have cut shallower lines in my design. That way the ceramic would have maintained its form without breaking. Final Reflection: One of the objects that pushed me to overcome a few obstacles was my water color mountain range painting. One of the obstacles that cost me the most time was the blending of paints. I was attempting to go for a more abstract approach with my piece, but unfortunately I came across a few issues with running paint. To remedy this I used a thirsty brush technique to absorb the unwanted paint colors and to add in the appropriate paint. Overall I was able to salvage the project even though it didn't come out the way I expected it would.

Reflection: Collaboration had a drastic impact on my final product. The design and overall composition of my ceramic sculpture changed dramatically. Having collaborated with my peers yielded several different benefits. For starters my pinch pot gained support attachments which allow the construct to sit upright without assistance. In addition unique and slightly unorthodox patterns were added to the exterior of the sculpture. These patterns gave the pot far more character, and made it significantly more appealing to the eye. Now there were several different challenges that inhibited my progress for a short time. The first obstacle was the construction/framework of the initial sculpture. It took me several days to successfully structure the pinch pot in a way that was satisfactory to me. This was, in part, due to the uneven clay distribution when generating the base structure of the ceramic. In addition I was unsatisfied with the modifications in design provided by my peers. This meant that I had to take additional time in order to revise the patterns as well as the framework for the purpose of capturing the piece that was appealing to me. In conclusion I believe that this collaboration was significantly beneficial for the overall construction of my 3 dimensional monster pinch pot sculpture. Artist Statement: I have collaborated with my colleges in order to establish my monster pinch pot sculpture. To frame said sculpture I utilized white clay, water, and flat wooden sticks (the sticks were necessary in order to flatten out the protrusions in the framework). I constructed the initial framework and then turned it over to several of my classmates, who incorporated their own concepts into the construct. The initial intention was to construct a simplistic clay sculpture, and to then incorporate my peers own unique aspects into the piece. Now initially it was necessary to make the structure simplistic as to give enough space/capacity for my peers to contribute their own concepts. I had originally intended for the sculpture to develop into an intriguing product (which it did). Although this is absolutely not the greatest ceramic I have forged, it certainly didn't come out as mundane as I had previously anticipated. Overall I conclude that my construct came out with moderate quality. However I should continue to practice/experiment for the purpose of improving upon my sculpting techniques. I have painted a water color mountain range. I used a wet on wet technique in order for the colors to blend together and allow for the painting to have a more natural appearance and abstract structure. I used water color paint, water, a paintbrush, water color paper, and a pencil in order to create my piece. The main idea behind my work was to improve upon a previous design that I had constructed. My goals were to utilize and experiment with new techniques so that I could improve my work and too significantly improve my artistic skill with water color. I think that overall I could have done better. I believe that I enjoy the previous design that I created. That's not to say that i don't like the piece that I have created, but I believe that I could have done a better job in the construction of this piece.
I have created my art piece out of recycled materials. The purpose of this design is to act as a storage for misc items (i.e pencils, sharpies, pens, etc.). I created these using cans, pattern paper, and modge podge. I measured the appropriate amount of paper, cut out the paper, added the modge podge as I went (this prevents some of the air bubbles) and once the paper was applied around the entire can, I modge podged on top of the paper to give it a sheen. The main idea behind my design was to create a functional piece of art that's beneficial for the environment and pleasing to the eye. I believe that overall my piece came out better than I expected, but I still could have been better. I will have to practice with this art form more frequently in order to improve my artistic skill.
The art piece that I created is a pot with a honeycomb design. The design may not have come out exactly the way that I envisioned it, but it's functional. I created my ceramic relief art piece after 3 days of research and review. The idea behind my work was to explore with a new medium, and create a piece of art that I could use in my everyday life. My goals were to be successful in this new medium, and to create it so that it wouldn't break during the firing process. Overall I think that I could have done a better job with creating my work. I came across a lot of issues when molding the clay that show in my final piece. However overall I'm glad I got to work with a new medium, and that it came out okay (i.e. not breaking).
Artist Statement: In making my piece I combined two different well known character symbols and fused them together, while adding my own spin to it. I got inspired to do this piece after looking at the bat symbol and then seeing a side view of Mickey Mouse. I decided to put mickey's side view shadow over the bat symbol's yellow background in order to get the base for my product. I then added multiple hatching and cross hatching lines. In doing this I believe that my work came out okay and that it challenged me to a fair degree as I had to sketch an accurate shadow on a bright background.

When creating my piece I decided to take an abstract turn as opposed to a more realistic approach. I decided to make something called fracture art, which is a form of art that incorporates jagged, and often randomized shapes to create a pattern or object. This is the first time I have ever created anything like this. The basic idea behind my work was to create something new. Something that took after a piece that I’ve done a few times before. The basic goal that I had was to create something different and new that was pleasing to the eye. That’s why I incorporated large amount of colors within my piece. I think that my work came out ok. I think that the next piece of fracture art I do should be done using a more advanced medium such as pastels, or watercolor paint as opposed to colored pencils. |
GabeHello! I'm Gabe I'm a reader, writer, and a gamer. I love Halo 5 (even though I suck at it). I also enjoy creating art using mediums like color pencils and water color paint (even though I'm not too good :p). Archives
