Reflection: Collaboration had a drastic impact on my final product. The design and overall composition of my ceramic sculpture changed dramatically. Having collaborated with my peers yielded several different benefits. For starters my pinch pot gained support attachments which allow the construct to sit upright without assistance. In addition unique and slightly unorthodox patterns were added to the exterior of the sculpture. These patterns gave the pot far more character, and made it significantly more appealing to the eye. Now there were several different challenges that inhibited my progress for a short time. The first obstacle was the construction/framework of the initial sculpture. It took me several days to successfully structure the pinch pot in a way that was satisfactory to me. This was, in part, due to the uneven clay distribution when generating the base structure of the ceramic. In addition I was unsatisfied with the modifications in design provided by my peers. This meant that I had to take additional time in order to revise the patterns as well as the framework for the purpose of capturing the piece that was appealing to me. In conclusion I believe that this collaboration was significantly beneficial for the overall construction of my 3 dimensional monster pinch pot sculpture. Artist Statement: I have collaborated with my colleges in order to establish my monster pinch pot sculpture. To frame said sculpture I utilized white clay, water, and flat wooden sticks (the sticks were necessary in order to flatten out the protrusions in the framework). I constructed the initial framework and then turned it over to several of my classmates, who incorporated their own concepts into the construct. The initial intention was to construct a simplistic clay sculpture, and to then incorporate my peers own unique aspects into the piece. Now initially it was necessary to make the structure simplistic as to give enough space/capacity for my peers to contribute their own concepts. I had originally intended for the sculpture to develop into an intriguing product (which it did). Although this is absolutely not the greatest ceramic I have forged, it certainly didn't come out as mundane as I had previously anticipated. Overall I conclude that my construct came out with moderate quality. However I should continue to practice/experiment for the purpose of improving upon my sculpting techniques.
